Dr Rajib Samanta – Consultant Paediatric Neurologist
Dr Samanta is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust. He completed medical graduation from Medical College, Bengal, the prestigious oldest existing hospital in Asia established 1835 by Lord William Bentinck during British Colony in India & then had further post-graduate training in Child Health in India.
Dr Samanta completed higher specialist training in Paediatrics under North London Deanery & Paediatric Subspeciality training in Paediatric Neurology in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London & National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE) under London Deanery.
He achieved dedicated training in Complex Epilepsy, managing epilepsy with Ketogenic Diet. He had further dedicated training in Paediatric Stroke & Neurovascular Disorders in Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Dr Samanta accepted position of Consultant Paediatric Neurologist in Leicester in East Midlands in 2015 after a tenure as Consultant Paediatric Neurologist in Institute of Neurosciences in Kolkata India from 2010-2014.
During his time in Leicester, Dr Samanta consolidated further experience in specialised Neuro-Ophthalmology service in children.
Official bodies:
Dr Samanta is a member of the British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA); member of International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) British Chapter and Epilepsy Action UK. Dr Samanta is also member of TREAT-NMD, a network for the neuromuscular disorders.
Dr Samanta completed diploma in Interpretation of EEG under European Epilepsy Academy (EUREPA – Germany)
He has several publications, in Paediatric Stroke, Neuro-genetic disorders & Mitochondrial disorders in children. Dr Samanta contributes actively to research in Paediatric Epilepsy.
Teaching/Training:
Dr Samanta has been examiner for the clinical exam of MRCPCH & DCH UK for last 5 years & applied for Senior Examiner status. He hosted two sessions of MRCPCH examinations in his home centre in Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Dr Samanta is PLAB examiner for assessment of International Medical Graduates in PLAB-2 OSCE examinations. He also is teacher & examiner for Leicester Medical School.
Dr Samanta is dedicated educational supervisor for paediatric trainees under RCPCH & he is also dedicated educational supervisor for Foundation year trainees under Health Education England Midlands (HEEM) at UHL Leicester Trust. He has responsibility as appraiser for the UHL trust for consultant colleagues in University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust.
