Specialist Paediatric Neurologists

We have ensured that we have the best panel of experts with us, who are also leading clinicians and academicians in their parent NHS organisations. They have a deep interest in this subject and are motivated by the desire to set up a platform through Dementech to provide timely, precise and cost-effective care for children.

We also offer a second specialist opinion even if the primary clinical consultation and investigations have occurred in another centre anywhere in the world. This can be facilitated both on site in person, and remotely using secure web-based technologies.

Dementech prides itself on bringing to you this dedicated service for the care of children in the community without the need for going through a formal hospital booking process. This model of care in the private sector is unique for the city of London, and in fact perhaps for anywhere in the world. We accept children for all aspects of screening, diagnostics as well as flexible and convenient on site and remote clinical follow up.

Autism Spectrum Disorder: Signs, Symptoms & Treatment

Autism spectrum disorder (also knows as ASD) is a developmental disorder that commonly involves problems with communication and social interactions.

ASD is the umbrella term that covers classic autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified (PDDNOS) and Asperger’s syndrome. These conditions were considered to be separate in the past, now they are all grouped under the autism spectrum.

It is important to know that ASD can be mild, moderate or severe. Therefore no two children with ASD are the same, despite sharing similar problems. ASD is referred to as a spectrum because there is a wide range of features among different people with ASD.

Children with mild symptoms are often referred to as ‘high functioning’.

ASD is a lifelong disorder without a cure. However, early intervention such as therapy and support can successfully help children with ASD to reach their full potential.

What is an MRI scan?

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine uses a powerful magnet and radio waves to take very clear and detailed pictures of the body. It is useful for analysing different parts of the body, giving extra information compared to X-rays, ultrasounds or CT scans.

During an MRI scan, the part of the body being scanned will have images taken from several different angles. The magnetic field used in MRI is believed to be safe even for unborn babies. There is no ionising radiation (found in X-rays) used in MRI.

Why a Child May Need an MRI

Your child may need a MRI for many different reasons, for example to:

  • To look at the shape/structure of different parts of the body
  • Check for any signs of disease
  • Help to plan follow-up treatment after a procedure
  • Help with planning before an operation
  • For early detection, treatment, and management of diseases

MRI scans can be performed on any organs within the body.
