Parkinson’s disease

Early symptoms of the disease may be mild and not everyone experiences PD in the same way. However, symptoms worsen over time and may involve impaired balance, speech problems (softened voice, slurred speech), swallowing problems, bowel and bladder problems, difficulties at night (discomfort in bed, cramps, disturbed sleep pattern) and tiredness during the day. Sometimes the skin can become greasy and those affected might experience excessive sweating.

Along with this constipation, bladder and sexual problems are common. People often experience depression, anxiety and memory problems. In more advanced stages of the condition, patients may develop dementia and experience hallucinations.

Only about 10-15% of PD cases have been linked to a genetic cause, whereas most cases of PD are called idiopathic or sporadic, meaning the cause is unknown.

Same Day Diagnosis

At Dementech Neurosciences, we endeavour to see you on the same day, if possible. You no longer have to wait to be seen by an expert and can be seen alongside your journey with the NHS, With your consent, we can also share the full consultation report with your GP.

Same Day Assessment

There is no single test to diagnosis Parkinson’s and reaching a conclusive diagnosis can take time. At Dementech Neurosciences London clinic we offer different levels of care to treat patients with Parkinson’s. Because it is far more effective to prevent a disease, our approach involves risk assessments, prevention strategies and tools to manage symptoms and treat the condition and lessen its impact.

However, in cases where a diagnosis of a disease has been established, our multidisciplinary team will do everything possible to treat symptoms and prevent them from progressing further, improving the patient’s quality of life, emotional health and well-being.

Tele Consultations Available

Dementech Neurosciences is now offering tele consultations to patients who are unable to physically attend our clinic on Wimpole street. We will be conducting these calls through Skype, FaceTime and WhatsApp call/Video call.

Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis

Accurate diagnosis is critical in neurology and even more so for degenerative conditions. Due to the complexity involved in testing, wrong diagnosis is common with many neurological diseases.

Wrong diagnosis can expose you to the wrong course of treatment and a negative outcome.

At Dementech, we use the highest quality technology coupled with some of the world’s most renowned experts in Parkinson’s Disease to deliver accurate diagnosis that will lead to the best possible course of treatment.

Parkinson's Disease Treatment

There currently isn't a cure for Parkinson’s disease however, there are many medications and advanced treatments (including brain stimulation surgery) available to treat the symptoms.

The effectiveness of the main drug treatment can wear off over time and its long-term use can cause dyskinesia, involuntary twisting movements of the arms, legs or face.

At Dementech Neurosciences, we offer a multidisciplinary approach to treat Parkinson’s disease. Our team of experts work together to provide an individual treatment plan to monitor symptoms and manage the condition.

Our team includes a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, dietitian, psychologist and psychiatrist who provide speech therapy, nutrition advice and counselling.
Alongside this, we use state-of-the-art technology such as the PKG to monitor and effectively treat symptoms and complications of PD.

Parkinson’s Disease: What To Expect

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive and incurable disorder of the nervous system. It affects movement and is characterised by tremors, stiffness and slowing down of movement.

Parkinson’s Disease And You

A Parkinson's disease guide created for patients and carers: We created this guide to help you understand your experiences, and start a dialogue about brain health.

Risk Assessment & Prevention

If one of your family members suffered or is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease then we offer an advanced testing program that can detect the probability of you ever getting the disease.

This is of critical importance for people that could be genetically predisposed as the earlier you are diagnosed the more help we can provide with a course of treatment. When Parkinson’s is diagnosed at an advanced stage, it is more difficult to deal with the common symptoms.

Cutting-edge technology developed in collaboration with Dementech offers us insight years ahead as to the possibility of you developing Parkinson’s.
