Dr Dimitrios Nouvakis – Consultant Neurologist

My name is Dimitrios Nouvakis and I currently work as a Consultant Neurologist within the NHS in London. I have been a part of the Dementech Neurosciences team since December 2023.

I reside in the UK from 2022. I have worked as a senior clinical fellow in Neurology/Stroke at King’s College Hospital for one year being involved in acute neurological emergencies, management of complex and rare neurological conditions and having participated in research clinical trials in stroke medicine. Following that, I trained in the Specialised Autonomics Department in the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery for 6 months, conducting outpatient clinics focused on autonomic nervous system disorders, including dysautonomia, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and chronic fatigue spectrum disorders. I have been working as a Consultant Neurologist in North West London for the past year diagnosing and managing a wide variety of neurological disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, being part of multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs), supervising and mentoring junior doctors and medical students and utilising neuroimaging techniques to guide diagnostic and therapeutic decisions. For the last year, I have been participating in specialised headache Clinics in the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, providing diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary headache disorders, including migraines, cluster headaches and tension-type headaches, engaging in pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.

I was trained in Neurology in Greece from 2015-2022, when I acquired my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). During this time, I was trained in several fields of Neurology including Stroke, Epilepsy, Dementia, Headache as well as acute neurology. I hold a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Stroke Medicine, having completed my thesis on sleep disorders associated with stroke. I have been granted the title of ‘Fellow of the European Board of Neurology’ (FEBN). I have also been awarded an honorary research grant from the Hellenic Neurological Society in 2022, having received the first prize.

My first and only priority is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care, by continuously seeking to advance this patient care through clinical excellence, continuous professional development, education and research and by integrating the latest scientific advancements into my clinical practice. I have built a keen interest in stroke medicine, general neurology and headache and I commit to work closely with my patients in order to develop personalised treatment strategies.
