Clinical Trials For Patients

Home Clinical Trials

Scientists have made remarkable advances in recent years in dementia research. There are now several clinical trials investigating potential new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders.

At Dementech Neurosciences, we’re extremely proud of being at the centre for international clinical trials in neurodegenerative disorders. Taking part in such important clinical trials gives our participants the opportunity to receive next generation treatment, free of charge, before they become widely available to the general public.

What is a Clinical Trial?

A clinical trial is a carefully controlled medical study that is designed to see how safe and effective new treatments, medications, medical devices,or interventions are.

Medical trials are usually conducted in phases, starting with small groups to assess the safety, before expanding it to larger groups to get a bigger sample size. The goal of the clinical trial is to collect enough data from a controlled test to ensure the treatment is suitable for use by the general population.

What We Can Offer

We serve as a dedicated trial site, offering a wide range of diagnostic services tailored to the specific protocols of each clinical trial. Our team ensures that all diagnostics are conducted with precision, adhering to the highest standards and requirements set by the trial protocols to support accurate and reliable outcomes.

We have worked on a number of trials involving diagnostics such as:

  • MRI
  • PET scans
  • DAT scans
  • Lumbar Punctures
  • EMG and Nerve conduction studies
  • Neurology assessments
  • Cognitive assessments
  • MSLT, MWT and PSG assessments

Our strong affiliation with esteemed academic team members grants us access to a diverse range of highly skilled clinical and administrative professionals. This collaborative network allows us to efficiently address the unique needs of each clinical trial, ensuring all aspects, from patient care to protocol management are expertly handled. This comprehensive support system allows us to streamline our patient recruitment process and ensure trials are conducted smoothly. Everything is completed confidentially so your anonymity is maintained during the trial.

Benefits of Our Clinical Trials

For those with neurological disorders who have not found success with current treatments, clinical trials offer a great alternative. Trials provide access to ground-breaking treatment options that are yet to be made widely available giving early access to something that could potentially help manage or treat the condition altogether.

Patients who participate in trials also benefit from close and consistent monitoring of their health by expert medical professionals. This level of care is particularly beneficial given the current NHS waiting times, helping patients receive timely attention and support. With the participation of patients in our clinical trials, we are together able to contribute to the advancement of medical research.

We also have a collaborative partnership with Chelsea and Westminster Research Unit where we use their site for specific procedures, while they utilise our medical expertise and resources. This mutually beneficial relationship allows us to increase the chances of a successful trial and deliver the best possible outcome.

Eligibility for Clinical Trials

Every clinical trial has a set of eligibility criteria that participants must meet. These criteria can include factors such as age, gender, medical history, current health, and any medications that you are currently taking. These requirements ensure that the trial is safe for participants and increase the chances of it being a success.

During your first appointment, our main goal is to assess whether the trial is suitable for you. We carefully review your medical history and current condition to make sure there aren’t any potential complications that could impact your participation in the trial or affect the results.

Once we have confirmed you are a good fit for the clinical trial, we will be in touch to confirm details of the trial, when it will begin, and next steps.

Clinical Trial FAQs

What is the Cost of Clinical Trials?

Clinical trials are fully funded by pharmaceutical companies and other research institutions, meaning they are free for you to participate. All expenses related to the trial, including treatments, tests, and follow-ups are covered.

Why Are Clinical Trials Needed?

Clinical trials are important as they help us find out if new treatments, medications, medical devices are safe and effective for people. Before a new treatment can be widely used, careful testing is required to ensure it works and doesn’t cause any dangerous side effects.

Without clinical trials, doctors would not have any evidence that a new treatment actually works. Trials also allow different treatments to be compared against each other to identify which one is the most effective. Trialling new treatments most importantly ensures they are safe and don’t cause any adverse reactions.

Clinical trials improve healthcare and medicine and give patients the best care and treatment options which advances medical knowledge for future generations.

Can I Withdraw From a Clinical Trial?

Your participation is greatly valued in our clinical trials, but you are free to withdraw from a trial at any time, without any obligation or penalty. Your health and comfort is the highest priority and if you wish to stop participating, that is perfectly fine.

Are Clinical Trials Confidential?

All information collected about you during the course of the study will be kept strictly confidential. If you choose to withdraw during the study the information already collected with your consent will be retained and used in the study.

Furthermore, once you have consented to take part in the research, with your permission we can write to your GP to inform him/her that you are participating in this study.
